We've been super busy at OFTO lately, but sometimes we like to take a break and go on a Sunday drive. A couple of weekends ago, we did just that and found ourselves in a little town called Stella, located in Newton County. And, oh my goodness, if you're looking for a place to watch Eagles, Stella is it! We expected to see one or two at a distance, but we were very pleasantly surprised to find them roosting in the trees like any other bird! And are they ever gorgeous! We even spotted one on a nest! A couple of thousand Eagles call the area home during the winter months and, depending on the weather up North, maybe even more. We're just glad that we were able to enjoy them while they're still here! (Missouri weather being the way it is, they may be confused at times whether or not winter is winding down.) There is a Festival of Eagles every January to celebrate these magnificent birds. The small town of Stella goes from 158 population to around 1500 on the day of the festival! We found out about the Festival of Eagles too late this year, but you can bet we're going to try and make it there for the festivities next year! Happy Eagle watching!
